Join our fun, hands-on Derbakeh / Tabla classes! These engaging group sessions explore traditional rhythms, techniques, and the joy of drumming together – perfect for beginners and experienced players alike.
2026 Winter/Spring Tabla Classes
Adults & Youth (ages 8 years and up)

DATES, TIMES, AND LOCATION:
- Tuesdays, January – June, from 6:30pm – 7:30pm:
- SESSION I (4 classes, 4 hours):
- January 27; February 3, 10, 17
- SESSION II (6 classes, 6 hours):
- March 24, 31; April 7, 14, 21, 28
- SESSION III (6 classes, 6 hours):
- May 12, 19, 26; June 2, 9, 16
- SESSION I (4 classes, 4 hours):
- In person at Alif Institute (Chamblee)
- Drop-in/trial class only if spaces are available. Please EMAIL us or call 700-936-8770.
COST
- SESSION I (4 classes, 4 hours): $110 for Sanad Team members, $115 for non-Sanad Team members
- January 27; February 3, 10, 17
- SESSION II (6 classes, 6 hours): $165 for Sanad Team members, $175 for non-Sanad Team members
- March 24, 31; April 7, 14, 21, 28
- SESSION III (6 classes, 6 hours): $165 for Sanad Team members, $175 for non-Sanad Team members
- May 12, 19, 26; June 2, 9, 16
- Pro-rated if you join after the first class. (For pro-rated payments, please contact us at info@alifinstitute.org.)
- The drop-in rate is $35 per session / $40 for non-Sanad Team members if space is available. (Pay in person. RSVP before class required.)
- Tabla rental:
$65 for up to five months plus a refundable $150 security deposit.- Rental cost covers the entire session.
- Tabla should be returned on the last day of class.
- There are a limited number of tablas for rent. Please check with us for oud rental availability. We also happy to suggest how to buy your own tabla.

- To become a Sanad Team member, please click HERE. (You are not required to become a member to register for classes, but you must be signed into the website as a Sanad Team member to get the Sanad Team member’s price.)
- PLEASE NOTE:
- There are no refunds after the first class of the session.
- There are no make-ups for missed classes.
PRIVATE LESSONS
- Private lessons with flexible times are also available.
- The cost is $70/hour.

Alif Tabla Troupe Mission: To bring youth and adults together to learn traditional, create friendships, team and leadership, confidence, expand their horizons…
Alif Tabla Troupe has the opportunity to perform at festivals and cultural events around the metro-Atlanta area to share the joy of Arabic music.
Troupe members must commit to at least two performances per year: The Atlanta Arab Festival (October) and one other event.
Applicants do not need previous experience with the tabla.
Troupe members must commit to attend all practice dates each semester.
Joining the group is free of charge.
Age: Adults and children from age seven years old and up is welcome to join.
