The Exodus and the Odyssey (2007) is a film about a body of artwork created over a 4-year period (1997 to 2000) by the renowned Palestinian artists Ismail Shammout (Lyd 1930-2006) and Tamam El-Akhal (born 1935 in Jaffa).

The collection of nineteen wall murals (each 200cm x 165cm in size) allowed the artists to “…illustrate our memories and document our experiences before, during, and after the NAKBA (catastrophe) of 1948 in Palestine as well as the bitter journey our countrymen and women had to endure. Finally, we ended the series with murals depicting the future dreams and aspirations of our people.”

The film is a narrated journey through the murals depicting in chronological sequence the Nakba and aftermath the plight of the Palestinian people. Exquisitely shot showing the great detail it is the perfect illustrated backdrop to the history of Palestine since 1948.
