Shine a light on Arab culture!

Now is the time to raise our profile, use our voices, and preserve our heritage. Now is the time to shine our light on Arab culture.

Keep Arab Culture Alive

Culture is important. Culture helps define who we are. A bridge between our past and our future, it is both malleable and constant. At its best, culture is an expression of our humanity. As such, it binds us not only to our own community but to other communities as well.

Alif’s mission is to foster the understanding and appreciation of Arab culture. We empower the Arab-American community by teaching the next generation how to celebrate Arab heritage as an integral part of American life and the fabric of Atlanta’s diverse community. We also reach out to non-Arab Americans to invite them to experience the graciousness, beauty, and diversity of Arab cultures.

Desire for Alif’s work continues to intensify. This year we are on track to surpass the 10,000 people directly reached by our programming last year. We expanded outreach to schools and community organizations. The Annual Atlanta Arab Festival was featured on 20 digital billboards around the metro-Atlanta area, drawing more than 5,000 attendees to our event. And, Alif significantly raised its profile by organizing educational and entertaining events at some of the most-high profile venues in Atlanta, including Woodruff Arts Center, Center for Civil and Human Rights, Atlanta History Center, Fernbank Museum, and Piedmont Park.

In response to increasing demand, we increased the capacity of our Arabic Language Program and improved our facility with a new playground outside and by adding computers and large screens to each classroom. We leveraged your generous donations, volunteer hours, and grant funds to increase staff hours, professionalize our staff and board structures, and created a new Advisory Council. For more impactful outreach, we worked with a professional marketing consultant to produce a marketing plan for Alif. In October, our first Fellow, Mr. Sheen Atwa, began his nine-month tenure with Alif staff to promote our mobile exhibit in local schools and collect Arab-American stories through our community partner, StoryCorps.

In an effort to prepare for continued increasing demand, Alif has begun a professionally-led strategic planning process. While we are open to where this process takes us, we do know that we need to continue to make significant improvements to our facility and increase our staff structure.

National and global events have created a highly polarized environment where education about different cultures is more urgently needed than ever. Times of change and uncertainty present many opportunities. Now is the time to raise our profile, use our voices, and preserve our heritage.

The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Please, help us shine a light on Arab culture! Please DONATE now and help us KEEP ARAB CULTURE ALIVE!
