Mosaic ClassesSession I:  4 Tuesdays | 04 MAR - 25 MAR, 2014 | 7 PM - 9PM

Session II: 4 Saturdays | 08 MAR - 29 MAR 2014 | 12 PM - 2 PM

Description: During this 4 week introduction to the world of mosaic art, students will enjoy a fun and inspiring class where they can explore the many possibilities of mosaic art. Students will learn how to work with several different materials and basic tile cutting techniques. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of colors and tiles to create their own unique mosaic art piece to take home! Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting damaged or bring an apron with you. No prior art or mosaic experience necessary!

Arabic Arts  Crafts - ClassesartArabic Arts & Crafts for children

Saturdays from 1pm to 2pm

Arabic Arts & Crafts are open to all children and youth (Alif students or non-students). Director Angela Khoury teaches students Arabic crafts that complement their Arabic studies by exposing them to Arabic culture.

Classes are free of charge to students registered in Arabic classes at Alif Institute and for Alif members. 

Classes for non-members and non-students are $5.00 per person, per class.


Dabkeh Classes



Alif institute is happy to offer Dabkeh classes featuring Dabkeh trainer, Ms Iman Khoury.

Classes are offered to adults, youth and children.. 

Alif Dabkeh teams have been invited to perform at numerous venues, including performances on the International Stage of the Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival and various fairs and festivals in local schools, colleges and non-profit organizations. The Dabkeh teams also perform at the Annual Atlanta Arab Festival held each spring at the Alif Institute. 

For adults, this fun form of exercise is also a wonderful way to be social while connecting with Arab culture.

For youth, this class represents a unique opportunity to learn about Arab culture, while building leadership skills and self esteem.

Session:  Saturdays | 1:30PM - 2:15PM Children Classes | 2:30PM - 3:30PM Adult Classes.

Cost:  $20 per person per month. Free for Children registered in Arabic Language Classes.

About Dabkeh (From Wikipedia)

Dabkeh (Arabic: دبكة); also transliterated "dabka","dabki", "dabke", "debke", "debkah", "debki", "debka" is an Arab folk dance native to the Levant. It is popular in Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia . A line dance, it is widely performed at weddings and joyous occasions. The line forms from right to left. The leader of the dabke heads the line, alternating between facing the audience and the other dancers.

Description: Let's sing together in Arabic! يلا نغني سوى (Yalla N’ghanni Sawa). Come join the Arabic chorus at the Alif Institute! Have fun and learn about the Arabic culture's rich musical heritage! This class is perfect for Arabic language learners in all levels.

No previous musical experience required! All instruments are welcome! All voices are welcome! All ages are welcome!


Marcus Alif 13

Description: Last year, Dr. Marcus led a 14-person community music ensemble in a concert during Alif's Atlanta Arab Festival - violin, flute, oud, darbouka, riqq, cello, bass, singers, and dancers. The audience sang and danced with us.


This year, we are expanding the opportunity, to interested musicians and singers. 5 Tuesday night rehearsals, culminating in a concert on Saturday night, March 29th.


This class welcomes singers, violinists, players of flute, percussionists, cello, bass, accordion, keyboard, nay, and other Middle Eastern instruments. It will include exposure to Arabic rhythms, scales, lyrics, and modes of improvisation, as well as iconic musicians of the Arab world, such as Fairouz and Omm Kalthoum.
